Ebb & Flood

Large super-oxygenated pot

The Ebb & Flood is similar to the Flo Gro but it floods from the bottom instead of the top which makes it even more efficient than the Flo Gro at supplying oxygen to the roots.

The Ebb & Flood can either be filled with clay pebbles – acting as a large pot, or can be filled with pots containing any growing medium. This bottom-flooding growing system with a timer produces massive yields thanks to the way it provides roots with superb access to oxygen.

The Ebb & Flood produces much bigger harvests than plants grown in traditional pots, but is as simple to use and is more versatile.

The timer triggers the pump to ‘flood’ the bottom of the growing medium and gravity pulls excess solution back into the tank along with fresh air, ensuring the medium is regularly flushed with nutrients and air resulting in a highly oxygenated root zone and huge yields.

The FLOOD - A timer controls how often nutrient solution is pumped up from the tank to FLOOD the growing medium. During floods, the plants take the water and nutrients they need and stale air is pushed out of the root zone .

The EBB Once the growing medium is flooded to two thirds the solution drains (EBBs) back into the tank, pulling fresh oxygen down directly to the roots.

Bigger Yields the 'little and often' feeding schedule, combined with the highly oxygenated root zone, means a healthier plant and larger yields.

Match feed frequency to the needs of the plant - Provide the perfect conditions for a plant throughout its lifecycle by altering the frequency and duration of feeds. So that nutrient uptake is optimised and yields are maximised.

Versatile Either grow in individual pots in clay, coco, rockwool or soil, so you can move plants around under lights as and when required, or fill the planter with clay pebbles – so that it becomes a large pot perfect for specimen plants.

Space efficient– The 1.2m2 Ebb & Flood is just 22cms tall to maximise headroom.

Reliable– Built to last for decades with high performance fittings and top quality pumps have unrivalled reliability.

Nutriculture holds the record for the world’s longest tomato plant. It was grown in an Ebb & Flood system.

More Information

Ebb & Flood produces huge yields because of the large amount of oxygen it provides around the roots. In a standard pot the media around the roots becomes saturated, reducing the oxygen content, if you can provide the roots with more oxygen the plants can take up more nutrients and water and will produce bigger yields.

Ebb & Flood provides the roots with fresh oxygen-rich air every feed. The stale air is pushed out each time the water rises into the 'Flood' table and when the water drains back into the tank fresh air is pulled into the root area.

The water left around the roots between the flood periods is highly oxygenated. Most rootzone diseases can't survive in an oxygen-rich environment, so you get healthy disease-free roots and highly productive plants.

Respond to the needs of the plant - It is very easy to monitor the amount of nutrient solution used and this allows experienced growers to tailor feeding schedules to get the optimum yields from their plants.

Questions & Answers

Golden Rule: Keeping a dedicated flood diary is the key to massive growth and yields. Note the number of floods compared to the amount of solution needed to top-up the system each day. The amount of solution used is directly related to rate of growth; maximise consumption and maximise growth. By experimenting with the number and duration of floods, growers will find the optimum number of floods for their growing environment. The flood diary can then be used as a guide to take the guesswork out of growing and achieve bigger yields time after time.

• If using clay pebbles treat the Ebb & Flood as a re-circulating hydroponic system and top up the tank every few days with half strength nutrient solution.

• If using an absorbent medium, the aim is to minimise run off and top up the tank with full strength nutrient solution.

• When using pots in Ebb & Flood, space the pots as required and cut holes in the correx top plate for them to sit through, this will keep light out of the root zone. Cover the base of the planter with spreader mat to allow the roots to grow out of the pots and onto the mat.
